Garmin announced the Varia RearVue 820, a new radar tail light designed to improve awareness and visibility for cyclists riding on roads. The device combines advanced vehicle tracking, a bright tail light and long battery life to support safer rides.

Varia RearVue 820 uses upgraded radar technology to detect approaching vehicles from behind and show alerts on compatible Garmin Edge cycling computers or the Varia smartphone app. It can identify vehicle size, track side to side movement and indicate threat levels based on speed and path. The radar can detect vehicles from more than 190 yards away and across multiple lanes. Riders also receive alerts when a vehicle follows at the same speed.

The tail light is Garmin’s brightest to date and can be seen from over 1.2 miles away. It offers multiple lighting modes including day flash, night flash, solid and peloton. A built in brake light activates when the rider slows or stops to alert others on the road. Battery life lasts up to 24 hours in day flash mode and up to 30 hours in radar only mode.

The device features a compact design, USB C charging and a seat post mount compatible with most road and gravel bikes. Varia RearVue 820 is available now at $299.99.
