Garmin announced that its GHA 15 height advisor is now approved for certified aircraft. Previously limited to experimental aircraft the GHA 15 has received Supplemental Type Certificate approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for installation in more than 500 certified Class I and II aircraft.

The GHA 15 uses radar technology to measure height above ground level by sending radio waves toward the ground and calculating the return time. It processes hundreds of readings per second and applies digital filtering to maintain stable AGL data even over water or uneven terrain. Height information can be displayed on compatible GI 275 electronic flight instruments at altitudes up to 500 feet AGL.

When paired with the GI 275 the system can also provide configurable audio callouts starting at 300 feet down to 1 foot AGL. These alerts help pilots stay focused outside the cockpit during approaches and landings especially in environments with limited barometric data such as backcountry operations.

The GHA 15 is a compact single module weighing under one pound and mounts to the underside of the aircraft requiring minimal installation changes. It is available now at a suggested retail price of $2,695.
