GE Vernova has completed two High Efficiency upgrades and a major outage at InterGen’s 800 MW Coryton Power Plant in the UK, located near London on the River Thames.
The upgrades were installed on two GT26 gas turbines and delivered stronger results than expected. The project added up to 85 MW of additional power output, above the projected 77 MW, and improved unit efficiency by 2.46%. The modernization is expected to reduce fuel use and cut around 67,500 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
The outage included inspections of generators and steam turbines, valve checks and electrical testing. More than 300 experts worked on the project, completing over 122,000 man hours with zero recordable safety incidents.
The GT26 HE upgrade was introduced in 2019 and is now operating in eleven units. The turbines can also run on hydrogen and natural gas blends, supporting future lower carbon operations.
