Siemens and CAPHENIA have formed a partnership to accelerate the scale up of Sustainable Aviation Fuel production. SAF is synthetic kerosene made from renewable feedstocks and can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil kerosene.
CAPHENIA uses a Plasma Boudouard Reactor that converts bio methane into synthesis gas at temperatures around 1,500°C. The 3 in 1 zone reactor integrates three chemical reactions in one system. The resulting synthesis gas can be processed into SAF, renewable diesel or chemical products without by products and with minimal energy losses. The process achieves over 86% efficiency by reusing heat from cooling to preheat incoming bio methane.
Siemens becomes the preferred automation and digitalization partner, providing solutions from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio including process control systems, drive and measurement technology and simulation software. Digital twins will support plant optimization before commissioning.
The collaboration covers support from the Frankfurt Höchst pilot plant to global commercial rollout with a modular and standardized automation template.
