Qualcomm Technologies and Ericsson have validated key 6G radio innovations through joint lab prototypes, moving 6G development from concept to proof and preparing for future commercialization.

The companies aligned on foundational physical layer technologies and are presenting agreed study items for 3GPP 6G Release 20. At MWC 2026, they will demonstrate a 400 MHz component carrier with 30 kHz subcarrier spacing and explore performance in the 6 to 8 GHz centimeter wave spectrum. Early testing includes improved cell edge coverage using new device capabilities such as four transmit receive antennas.

Beyond radio innovation, the partnership includes AI native and context aware 6G development. Joint prototypes feature AI and AR experiences with new device form factors and collaborative device network compute. Trials with leading operators are underway to validate uplink performance, wide area reliability and multi device AI use cases.

The focus on stronger uplink capacity supports the expected rise of agentic AI services across devices and outdoor environments by 2030. The collaboration aims to create a clear path from lab validation to global standardization and large scale deployment.
