Canon announced plans to expand its global multifunction device remanufacturing business to the United States. The initiative will begin at the Canon Virginia facility in April 2026.

The company already remanufactures used multifunction devices at Canon Ecology Industry in Japan and Canon Giessen in Germany. With the U.S. expansion Canon will implement the same standardized production processes and remanufacturing technologies developed at those facilities.

Canon’s multifunction devices are built using a platform based design where models within the same product class share common components and modules. This allows interchangeable parts and standardized assembly procedures which support efficient remanufacturing.

The company analyzes operational data from returned devices such as service history and print volume to determine which components can be reused. Parts that require replacement are automatically identified during the process.

The remanufacturing program is expected to achieve more than 90% parts reuse per unit while maintaining product performance and quality. Canon Virginia will work with Canon U.S.A. to support growing demand for remanufactured devices in the U.S. market.
