Meta announced new anti scam tools across WhatsApp, Facebook and Messenger to help detect fraudulent activity and warn users before they interact with suspicious accounts.
On WhatsApp, the platform will now show alerts when a device linking request appears suspicious. This is designed to prevent scammers from gaining access to accounts by tricking users into sharing linking codes or scanning QR codes.
Facebook is also testing alerts for suspicious friend requests. Users may see warnings when accounts show unusual signals such as limited mutual connections or inconsistent location information.
Messenger is expanding AI powered scam detection to more countries. If conversations show patterns linked to common scams such as fake job offers users may receive warnings and suggestions to block or report the account.
Meta is also using AI systems to detect impersonation of celebrities brands and public figures as well as deceptive links designed to mimic legitimate websites.
In 2025 Meta removed over 159 million scam ads globally and banned more than 12.1 million pieces of ad content in India related to fraud and deceptive practices.
