Garmin announced an expansion of its Guided Visual Approaches database adding more runways and airports designed to help pilots perform visual approaches into complex airport environments.

The update introduces 15 new guided visual approaches and expands coverage to 10 additional airports including Long Beach California and San Jose California.

Guided Visual Approaches provide both lateral and vertical navigation guidance helping pilots maintain a stable approach path when flying into airports with terrain obstacles or challenging surroundings.

The system integrates with Garmin avionics and offers a familiar interface similar to traditional instrument approaches. Pilots can also fly these procedures using autopilot while maintaining visual awareness outside the aircraft.

The approach procedures include georeferenced charts accessible through Garmin avionics systems or the Hughes Aerospace app.

Guided Visual Approaches are compatible with Garmin WAAS equipped avionics including the GTN and GTN Xi series and are available for purchase through flyGarmin.com as part of Garmin aviation database packages.
