IMX908 Sensor Focuses on High Dynamic Range and Low-Light Imaging

Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation has announced the IMX908, a new 4K CMOS image sensor designed for security cameras. The sensor features 1.45 µm LOFIC pixels, which Sony states are the smallest in this category.

The IMX908 delivers a dynamic range of 96 dB using a single exposure method, helping improve image clarity in both bright and dark environments. This approach reduces issues such as highlight loss, shadow detail reduction and image noise, while also limiting visual artifacts that can affect moving subjects.

The sensor uses Sony’s STARVIS 3 technology to enhance low-light performance and increase charge capacity compared to earlier models. It also supports improved image recognition accuracy, which is important for AI-based surveillance systems used in public and private spaces.

With its compact 1/2.8-type design and 4K resolution, the IMX908 is built for a wide range of indoor and outdoor monitoring applications. Sample shipments are expected to begin by the end of March 2026.
