Lenovo Phoenix Technologies Acquisition Brings BIOS Firmware Development In House
Lenovo has completed the acquisition of the firmware business of Phoenix Technologies, including its BIOS technology, intellectual property and engineering expertise.
The acquisition brings firmware development in house, allowing Lenovo to strengthen control over a critical layer of computing across its PC portfolio and future AI enabled devices.
Lenovo and Phoenix Technologies have collaborated for over 20 years, with Phoenix serving as a BIOS provider for ThinkPad systems. The deal builds on this long term relationship and expands Lenovo’s internal software capabilities.
By integrating firmware expertise, Lenovo aims to improve product security, accelerate development cycles and enhance system level innovation. The move also supports greater vertical integration and potential cost efficiencies across its hardware and software ecosystem.
The transaction has been completed following standard approvals, though financial details were not disclosed.
