Meta Space Solar Energy Partnerships Aim to Power AI Infrastructure and Strengthen Grid
Meta announced partnerships with Overview Energy and Noon Energy to support reliable power for AI infrastructure and data centers.
With Overview Energy, Meta plans to deploy up to 1 GW of space based solar energy. Satellites positioned about 22,000 miles above Earth collect constant sunlight and transmit it to ground based solar farms, enabling continuous power generation without new land or infrastructure.
In parallel, Meta is partnering with Noon Energy to deploy up to 1 GW and 100 GWh of long duration energy storage. The system uses solid oxide fuel cells and carbon based storage to deliver over 100 hours of energy, extending beyond traditional battery limits.
An initial pilot of 25 MW and 2.5 GWh is expected by 2028. Both projects aim to improve grid reliability and support continuous clean energy supply for AI operations.
Meta has already contracted over 30 GW of renewable energy and continues to expand its energy portfolio through new technologies and partnerships.
