NXP Semiconductors and GE HealthCare have announced a collaboration to develop two edge AI concepts focused on anesthesiology and neonatal care. The concepts were presented at CES 2026 and explore how on device AI can support clinical workflows in acute care settings.

In environments such as operating rooms and neonatal intensive care units, teams need fast and reliable insights. Edge AI processes data locally which helps deliver low latency responses and consistent performance without relying on cloud connectivity.

The first concept applies edge AI to anesthesia delivery systems. It is designed to allow anesthesiologists to interact with equipment using real time voice commands. The goal is to reduce manual interaction, lower cognitive load and help clinicians focus more on the patient during procedures.

The second concept supports neonatal care through live monitoring. It can detect infant activity such as crying or movement, identify objects in the bed and recognize unsafe sleeping positions. All image processing happens on the device using NXP’s eIQ AI Toolkit, with no data leaving the system to support privacy and security.
