Perplexity an artificial intelligence startup has submitted a proposal to acquire Google Chrome browser for $34.5 billion.
As part of the proposal, Perplexity stated it would maintain Chromium, the open-source foundation of Chrome, for public use and keep Google as the browser’s default search engine. The company also outlined plans to invest $3 billion into Chrome development over the next two years to enhance security, speed and user experience.
Chrome currently has more than 3 billion users worldwide and plays a central role in Google’s search and AI platforms. While analysts note the strategic importance of Chrome to Google makes a sale unlikely, Perplexity’s announcement has drawn attention within the technology sector.
