Siemens has laid the cornerstone for its new Technology Campus in Erlangen, Germany, marking a €500 million investment under its Made for Germany initiative. Positioned as a “lighthouse project,” the campus is set to become a global hub for power electronics, automation, and the industrial metaverse a virtual environment that enables industries to use AI and digital twins to simulate and optimize processes before real-world implementation.
The project will be built in phases. By 2027, Siemens will open a 7,000-square-meter logistics, services, and automation center supporting up to 300 employees. By 2030, the company plans to add a major R&D and innovation hub focused on next-generation converters, controls, and manufacturing activities. This expansion will reinforce Erlangen’s role as a leader in industrial automation and digitalization, where Siemens already employs around 3,000 people.
The initiative reflects Siemens’ wider €2 billion global investment strategy, with €1 billion earmarked for Germany. Sustainability is central to the project: the campus is designed as a net-zero site, powered by green energy and energy storage solutions, with extensive use of recycled materials. Officials view the campus as a model for digital transformation, strengthening both Germany’s competitiveness and Bavaria’s innovation ecosystem.
