Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation and GE Vernova have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop an integrated Gas Turbine Combined Cycle (GTCC) Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) solution aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions from gas-fired power plants in Japan and other parts of Asia. The collaboration combines GE Vernova’s Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system with Toshiba’s advanced CO₂ capture technology, which utilizes a proprietary solvent for efficient and cost-effective carbon capture.

Supported by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the initiative strengthens the companies’ 40-year partnership and aligns with Japan’s national decarbonization goals. Feasibility studies with leading utilities confirmed the potential to significantly reduce emissions and improve plant efficiency.

Toshiba’s engineering expertise in GTCC systems and GE Vernova’s high-efficiency gas turbine technologies will enable optimized integration that minimizes power output loss while lowering operating costs. Both companies aim to provide scalable solutions that enhance sustainability and operational flexibility for thermal power generation across Asia.
