Nikon Releases Lightweight, Compact 2D Robot Vision System

Nikon has launched a new model of its robot vision system designed specifically for 2D vision tracking in production environments. The system uses Nikon’s ultra-compact LuFact industrial camera, reducing the size and weight of the sensor attached to robotic arms. With a camera weight of 25.5 g and dimensions of 20 x 20 x 43.2 mm, the setup supports greater flexibility in robot hand selection, mounting positions, and movement paths. This allows production lines to handle a wider range of workpieces and deploy smaller, cost-efficient robots.

The system delivers high-speed image processing that enables robots to pick and assemble workpieces smoothly on moving conveyors without stopping the line. It adjusts in real time to changes in conveyor speed, orientation, or workpiece position, helping maintain consistent operation. Since the system automatically follows and processes workpieces, it does not require synchronization between robots and transport equipment, reducing setup time.

The product configuration includes the LuFact sensor (AH-020MR), an I/F conversion unit (A1000-G), a control PC engine, and a calibration board. It supports major robot manufacturers such as Yaskawa, FANUC, and Universal Robots. This 2D-focused model complements Nikon’s existing lineup, offering an option optimized for production lines that do not require 3D tracking.
