Hitachi Rail has entered a new technical collaboration with Google Cloud to accelerate digital transformation in the rail sector. The partnership focuses on using Google Cloud’s cybersecurity tools along with generative and agentic AI technologies to improve operational efficiency and support the long term move toward autonomous and sustainable rail systems. This work aligns with Hitachi Rail’s broader strategy to combine digital innovation with the global shift toward cleaner mobility.
The collaboration builds on a wider strategic alliance between Hitachi and Google Cloud announced in 2025. It brings together Hitachi Rail’s experience in railway systems, GlobalLogic’s digital engineering expertise, and Google Cloud’s AI platforms such as Vertex AI. The goal is to develop solutions that streamline operations, improve energy use, and prepare for next generation rail automation.
Hitachi Rail is also integrating this effort with its existing AI driven initiatives, including its HMAX digital asset management platform and recent adoption of NVIDIA’s IGX Thor edge processing technology. By combining AI, cloud, and operational technology, Hitachi Rail aims to advance physical AI applications and support more efficient rail networks worldwide.
