Japan Semiconductor Corporation, a manufacturing group company of Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation, has signed a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement to source environmental value from renewable energy generated by a floating solar power plant in western Japan. The agreement involves DIGITAL GRID Corporation as the aggregator and OTS LLC through its wholly owned project company Kunishitaike Mega Float.

Under the agreement, renewable energy value will be supplied from the Kunishitaike Solar Power Plant in Kagawa Prefecture. The facility has an installed capacity of 7,842.1 kW and is described as the largest floating solar power plant in western Japan. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in December 2025.

Through this virtual PPA, Japan Semiconductor expects to reduce its annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 4,173 tonnes on a recurring basis. The project uses floating solar technology, where panels are installed on water surfaces such as reservoirs and ponds. This approach can improve power generation efficiency through natural cooling and removes the need for land development.

The agreement was executed through Digital Grid’s RE Bridge platform, which connects buyers and sellers of renewable energy and environmental value. The initiative supports Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Group’s broader climate strategy, which focuses on expanding renewable energy use and achieving carbon neutrality across manufacturing sites by fiscal year 2030.
