Starlink has moved closer to launching satellite based broadband services in India by signing a Letter of Intent with the Government of Gujarat. The agreement aims to deliver high speed internet access to remote tribal border and underserved regions across the state.
The LoI was signed in Gandhinagar in the presence of Bhupendra Patel and Harsh Sanghavi. It focuses on using Starlink’s low earth orbit satellite technology to support Gujarat’s Digital Connectivity Mission especially in areas where traditional telecom networks are limited or unavailable. These include tribal districts such as Narmada and Dahod border villages and coastal regions.
Officials said the initiative could improve access to essential public services by strengthening digital connectivity for government schools Common Service Centres telemedicine facilities disaster management control rooms and e governance platforms. The scope also includes connectivity support for industrial parks ports coastal police networks and wildlife sanctuaries. A joint working group is expected to be formed to oversee planning coordination and execution of the project.
