Instagram Teen Accounts Update Introduces 13+ Content Rating and Parental Controls
Instagram has expanded its Teen Accounts globally with updated safety features based on 13+ movie rating standards and parent feedback. Teens under 18 are automatically placed in a default 13+ content setting and cannot change it without parental approval.
The update aims to show content similar to what is allowed in age-appropriate movies. While some mild suggestive content or strong language may appear, the platform is working to reduce such cases.
Instagram has updated its content policies to further limit exposure to harmful material. This includes restricting posts with strong language, risky stunts, or content that may promote harmful behavior like drug use.
New protections also limit teens from interacting with accounts that share inappropriate content. Search filters now block more sensitive terms, and restricted content cannot be accessed even through direct messages.
A new “Limited Content” setting gives parents stricter control by further filtering content and limiting comment interactions.
