NextStar Energy celebrated the grand opening of its battery manufacturing facility in Windsor Ontario, marking the launch of Canada’s first commercial scale battery production site.

The 4.23 million square foot facility has received more than $5 billion CAD in investment since 2022 and currently employs around 1,300 people. The company plans to expand its workforce to about 2,500 employees as production scales.

Battery production at the plant began in November 2025 and the facility has already produced more than one million battery cells. These batteries are designed for applications beyond electric vehicles, including energy storage systems, AI data centers and power grid infrastructure.

The Windsor plant is expected to play a key role in Canada’s growing battery manufacturing ecosystem by supporting domestic supply chains and advanced energy systems.

The opening event included government leaders and industry executives from Canada and South Korea.
