Siemens Vulcan Energy Lithium Partnership Supports Europe’s EV Supply Chain

Siemens has partnered with Vulcan Energy to support the Lionheart project, an integrated lithium and renewable energy initiative in Germany.

The project aims to produce 24,000 tons of lithium hydroxide annually, enough for around 500,000 electric vehicle batteries, along with renewable energy and heat for local use.

Siemens will act as the preferred supplier for automation and digitalisation technologies, providing solutions such as digital twins, control systems, industrial networks, and analytics. These technologies will support operations from resource extraction to production.

Siemens Financial Services will also participate as a strategic investor, alongside other partners, supporting long-term development of the project.

The collaboration supports Europe’s goal of strengthening local lithium supply and reducing reliance on external sources. It also contributes to building a more sustainable and resilient battery supply chain for electric mobility.
