Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced plans to co-develop an automotive system on a chip for its software defined vehicles in partnership with Mythic, a US based technology company. The collaboration will be led by Honda R&D Co., Ltd. and focuses on improving AI computing performance and energy efficiency for future vehicles.

Honda has invested in Mythic to support the development of advanced AI technologies used in automated driving and other intelligent vehicle functions. The companies will work on SoC development that can handle growing AI workloads while reducing power consumption, which is a key requirement for next generation SDVs.

As AI applications expand in vehicles, Honda sees the need for new computing approaches. The company is exploring neuromorphic SoC technology inspired by how the human brain works. Mythic brings expertise in analog compute in memory technology which reduces data movement and improves efficiency. The company also has experience in software tools needed to support these chips.

Honda R&D will combine its experience in AI model design electronic control units and vehicle systems with Mythic’s analog semiconductor technology. The goal is to accelerate research and development of high performance energy efficient SoCs for future Honda vehicles.
