Apple Leadership Transition Tim Cook John Ternus Marks CEO Change
Apple has announced a leadership transition, with Tim Cook set to become Executive Chairman and John Ternus appointed as CEO effective September 1, 2026.
Cook will continue as CEO through the summer to support the transition before moving into his new role, where he will remain involved in strategic matters and external engagement.
Ternus, currently Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, has been with Apple for over two decades and has led development across key product lines including iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch. He will also join Apple’s board.
The transition follows a long-term succession plan approved by the board. Arthur Levinson will shift from Chairman to Lead Independent Director.
Under Cook’s leadership, Apple expanded its global presence, introduced new product categories, and significantly grew revenue and market value.
