Bosch has commissioned its first in-house 2.5-megawatt electrolyzer at its Bamberg plant, marking a major milestone in its hydrogen strategy. Powered by Bosch Hybrion PEM electrolysis stacks, the system converts water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity, producing up to 1 metric ton of hydrogen per day meeting EU standards for renewable hydrogen. The installation is part of Bamberg’s new “hydrogen landscape”, which demonstrates Bosch’s end-to-end hydrogen technologies, from production to storage and utilization.

The facility integrates Bosch’s fuel-cell power module (FCPM), operating in a “lifetime container” to test durability and efficiency in continuous use. Hydrogen generated by the electrolyzer powers the FCPM, which then produces electricity that flows back to support hydrogen generation creating a circular energy system. Bosch’s second test station ensures each Hybrion stack meets stringent performance and reliability benchmarks before delivery.

The hydrogen tank at the site can store hydrogen at up to 50 bar, showcasing Bosch’s scalable hydrogen infrastructure. Bosch has already begun delivering Hybrion stacks to partners such as IMI, Kyros Hydrogen Solutions, Neumann & Esser, Pietro Fiorentini, and Hyter, reinforcing its leadership in clean energy innovation.
