Hyundai Motor Group announced its AI Robotics Strategy at CES 2026 outlining a roadmap to advance human centered robotics and Physical AI. Under the theme Partnering Human Progress the Group detailed how AI driven robots will work alongside people starting in manufacturing environments and expanding into broader industries.
The strategy is built on three pillars. The first focuses on co working robots that support people by taking on repetitive and high risk tasks. The second connects the Group’s value network with Boston Dynamics to create an end to end AI robotics value chain. The third pillar brings in partnerships with global AI leaders to accelerate innovation and safe deployment of humanoid robots.
At CES 2026 Boston Dynamics unveiled the product version of its new Atlas humanoid robot. Atlas is designed for industrial use with 56 degrees of freedom fully rotational joints human scale hands with tactile sensing and the ability to lift up to 50 kg. It is water resistant operates between minus 20 and 40 degrees Celsius and supports autonomous operation including automatic battery replacement. Atlas will begin deployment at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America for parts sequencing tasks starting in 2028 with expansion to assembly work by 2030.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to mass produce humanoid robots and target annual capacity of 30,000 units by 2028. Training and validation will be supported by data driven facilities such as the Robot Metaplant Application Center and the Software Defined Factory platform. The Group is also strengthening collaboration with NVIDIA to accelerate Physical AI development using simulation and AI infrastructure.
Beyond manufacturing the Group will expand Robotics as a Service offerings and deploy robots across logistics energy construction and facility management. Ongoing investments include long term commitments in South Korea and the United States to scale robotics production and build a global Physical AI ecosystem.
At its CES booth the Group showcased Atlas Spot Stretch and MobED robots with live demonstrations highlighting industrial automation autonomous mobility and human robot collaboration.
