Sony Honda Mobility Business Direction Shifts After AFEELA Cancellation

Sony Group Corporation and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. have announced changes to the future direction of their joint venture Sony Honda Mobility Inc.

Following Honda’s revised electrification strategy, the companies have discontinued development of the AFEELA models. After reviewing market conditions and business feasibility, they concluded that bringing products aligned with the venture’s goals would be difficult in the near term.

As a result, the companies will scale down Sony Honda Mobility’s operations and review its structure. Employees are expected to be reassigned to Sony, Honda, or related entities based on preferences.

The joint venture, established in 2022, aimed to combine expertise in technology and mobility to develop new automotive experiences.

While operations are being reduced, Sony and Honda stated they will continue discussions on future collaboration, particularly in areas such as software and advanced driver assistance systems.
